As a member of "Biochemisty Course" in the Division of Chemistry, we try elucidating molecular mechanisms of life processes. What do you image about "biology"? In past days, you would figure out "biology" was a science to observe creatures around us. Today biologists emphasize the recognition that "biology" is a science to unlock the secrets of life, in other words "life science". In the division of chemistry, we keep the heat on exploring the secrets by chemical ways. The motivating force behind our investigations is, of course, researchers' curiosities about life. If you have your specialities in addition to the curiosities, your research out from curiosities will progress infinitely.

We've been attempting clarification of cell functions on the basis of protein structures and functions. Not only biology but physics is necessary to see the life processes as networks of many biomolecules that repeat attach and detach. Chemisty is our base to deal with substances; atoms, molecules, and their aggregate. Biomolecules are also chemical substances. Thus chemistry will be a useful tool to explore secrets of life. Researchers and students in the division of chemistry are specialists who have advantage in chemistry. We expect our research will progress under the force of those who have strong curiosities on life.
